Hi John,

We’ve received a lot of questions recently about my position on Social Security. So I’d like to take a minute to give you some background.

My opponent, Congressman Kilmer, recently signed on to a letter that supports Mitt Romney's TRUST Act, which would create committees to deliberate in secret and propose cuts to Social Security. These committees are a way to provide political cover for proposals to cut Social Security.

The idea that Social Security is running out of money or contributing to the federal debt is incorrect. Social Security had a surplus of $2.5 billion in 2019, and it is self-funding through worker and employer contributions, interest earned on reserves, and taxes that beneficiaries pay on their Social Security benefits.

Fear mongering over the debt in relation to Social Security is a long-standing practice of Republicans — and some Democrats — who seek to cut Social Security.

During a global pandemic, in an era of extreme wealth inequality, and with 20% of our district 65+ years old, I find it outrageous that residents of District 6 cannot count on Derek Kilmer to safeguard Social Security, the greatest anti-poverty program in our country’s history.

We must not cut Social Security — we must expand it.

Can you give $3 now to help me win and fight for Social Security in Congress? Due to changes in our ability to phone-bank, the number of voters we’re reaching is down 50%. If you donate $3 now, we’ll be able to operate at 100% again.

Congressman Kilmer is trying to have it both ways: voicing tepid support for Social Security in some instances, while signing his name in support of an act that would cut Social Security. This is doublespeak.

My pledge to you is that I will NEVER cut Social Security, and I will always be honest and straightforward with you. The grandmother in Tacoma I met who’s living on $750 a month deserves it — and so does every senior in this district, from Sequim to Aberdeen and in between.

If you can, give $3 now so I can win and protect and EXPAND Social Security in Congress:
