One week ago today Georgia held its state primary elections, and election observers agree, it was a complete disaster.

“Democrats and election watchers said voting issues in a state that has been plagued for years by similar problems, along with allegations of racial bias, didn't bode well for the November presidential election, when Georgia could be in play.” -NBC News

Make no mistake, Republicans will HAPPILY repeat this scenario nationwide in November.

New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is right: Republicans are opposing vote-by-mail as part of their strategy to suppress Black and Brown voters and make it more difficult for people to vote in the midst of a pandemic. It’s a disgusting electoral strategy, but they’re going all-in on voter suppression. 

Without fully funded vote-by-mail and other protections, last week's election was plagued with long waits, voters turned away at the polls, and shortages of ballots, particularly in majority Black precincts where some voters waited 5 hours or longer to try to vote. 

We need to ensure safe voting options for everyone to push back on the Republican attack on Black and Brown voters. $4 billion in election funding for November would support expanded vote-by-mail options, no excuse absentee voting, extended in-person voting, and funds for safe and accessible polling sites.
