Dear John,

Thank you again for reading my newsletter.

This month I’ve been representing your views on a whole range of important issues, from large scale energy projects to local fire stations.

I recently asked the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer about his reckless approach to energy projects that could blight our countryside.

Plans for 90 kilometres of mega-pylons and solar panel sites as big as some towns would cause huge damage to the local environment.

I urged the Labour government to abandon their obsessive pursuit of net zero at any cost.

I am delighted that my campaign to stop the closure of several nurseries in the Borders seems to be moving in the right direction.

Councillors still need to go further and guarantee the long-term future of early learning and childcare facilities.

Parents rely on them and it would be a major inconvenience if they were to shut or hours were to be substantially reduced.

I will continue to encourage the council to protect essential rural services.

Labour’s deal with the EU on fishing is a complete betrayal of fishing and coastal communities.

Sir Keir Starmer has sold out our fishermen and got far too little in return.

His trade deal with the USA will also have a damaging impact on our farmers, who are already suffering from Labour’s harmful Family Farm Tax.

I am completely opposed to plans to make Hawick Fire Station a daytime-only service.

Downgrading local fire services would put the public at risk.

This is only being considered by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service because of cuts from the SNP government.

The Nationalists must step in to stop this from happening.

I have once again launched Volunteer of the Year awards to recognise everyone who goes above and beyond to help local people.

If you know someone who makes your community a better place, nominate them for a Scottish Borders Community Volunteer of the Year Award 👇
