Hi John,

We’ve taken a major step forward for North Carolina with the passage of the House budget — a common-sense, conservative plan that delivers meaningful relief for working families, teachers, and rural communities. I’m proud to support a budget that reflects our values: lower taxes, stronger schools, and smarter spending.

This month’s update includes highlights of key budget wins — like eliminating tax on tips, boosting teacher pay, and bringing back the back-to-school tax holiday — plus a look at important legislation that cleared the House before the Crossover Deadline.

As always, my door is open. If I can help you or your family navigate state government, don’t hesitate to reach out.

At your service,
Ben

Representative Ben T. Moss, Jr.
North Carolina General Assembly

** NC HOUSE BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS
------------------------------------------------------------
🚨 Big win for North Carolina! The NC House passed our version of the State Budget ([link removed]) in a strong 93-20 bipartisan vote — and I was proud to stand behind it.

Here's what this budget would do:
💰 NO TAX ON TIPS
👩🏻‍🏫 $50K/YR STARTING TEACHER PAY
📚 BACK-TO-SCHOOL TAX HOLIDAY
🌄 $450M+ TO REBUILD WNC
✂️ $10M CUT FROM DEI PROGRAMS

Our spending plan reflects common sense, conservative values and delivers where it counts — for teachers, families, & rural communities across our state.

** BACK TO SCHOOL TAX-FREE HOLIDAY
------------------------------------------------------------
Our NC House budget proposal includes the return of the Tax-Free Weekend starting in 2026. This initiative will provide families with savings on school supplies, clothing, and other essential items.

As your State Representative, I support efforts that ease financial pressures on parents and help prepare students for a successful school year.

** NO TAX ON TIPS!
------------------------------------------------------------

North Carolina’s service workers are the backbone of our economy — especially in our restaurants & hospitality industry. That’s why I’m fighting for a “NO TAX ON TIPS” provision in our NC House Budget that exempts the first $5,000 in tip income from state taxes.

** MORE TAX RELIEF FOR NC FAMILIES
------------------------------------------------------------

I’m proud to support a State Budget that lifts up working families. Our NC House Budget raises the standard deduction by $500 for individuals and $1,000 for married couples — helping more North Carolinians keep what they earn. It’s a common-sense step to strengthen our economy and ease the burden on households across our state.

** NC HOUSE CROSSOVER UPDATE
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

We've made it through the Crossover Deadline at the NC General Assembly — and I’m proud to have supported this slate of common-sense bills through the House, all of which are now one step closer to becoming law.

From protecting kids online and honoring our veterans to cracking down on fraud and supporting first responders, we’re delivering results that matter to North Carolina families. Onward to the Senate!

** LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
------------------------------------------------------------
The 2025-2026 Legislative Session continues to progress with committee meetings running throughout the week as we conduct the business of the people and work to finalize the State Budget. Our office remains open to serve as a resource, standing ready to help you navigate state government, answer your questions, & listen to your feedback or suggestions.
