Hi John,
Today, we’re celebrating six powerful years of leadership from our Executive Director, Karundi Williams.
Since stepping into this role in 2019, Karundi has transformed re:power into the vibrant learning home it is today for thousands of organizers across the country. She leads with clarity, courage, and deep care. And we are all better because of it.
At this year’s Camp re:power in Charlotte, North Carolina—where nearly 200 BIPOC community organizers from 34 states gathered to reflect, reset, and recommit to their purpose—Karundi reminded us of her bold vision as the first Black woman to lead re:power:
“I started thinking more deeply about the type of environment that we needed… in order to do this work for the long-haul. How can we build a just world if we don’t even model justice in our own spaces? So I made a decision: If the space I needed didn’t exist, I was going to build it… re:power is a space where we unapologetically center BIPOC organizers like YOU. Because I believe the work you’re doing in your communities is what will save us.”

Campers left reenergized and deeply connected to one other and to a shared vision of a multiracial democracy. That’s the magic Karundi brings with every speech, every strategy session, and every moment of holding space for her team.
Under Karundi’s leadership, here’s just a glimpse of what we’ve achieved together thus far:
* Doubled our annual budget
* More than doubled our staff size
* Trained over 10,000 organizers nationwide
* Launched our first-ever Women of Color Leadership Cohort
* Built transformational partnerships with funders and grassroots groups
* Recommitted our mission to pro-Black, liberatory organizing
Karundi’s vision is grounded in community, abundance, and collective action. She believes in a future where the dominant values of white supremacy—individualism, scarcity, and competition—are replaced by liberatory practices rooted in care, justice, and shared power. A future where community leaders don’t just get elected, but co-govern with their communities.
This is not just a dream. It’s a vision we are building right now, together.
Join us in celebrating Karundi’s 6th anniversary by investing in this vision.
