🚨 Trump Budget Bill Threatens Lifesaving Care 🚨 Physicians Warn of Devastating Impact on Medicaid, Reproductive Health, and Trans Rights

Dr. Jamila Perritt, ob/gyn in Washington DC and President & CEO of Physicians for Reproductive Health responds:

“The House of Representatives’ passage of the Trump budget bill is a move that will threaten the life and well-being of millions of people. Slashing Medicaid impacts people from all backgrounds, lived experiences, and identities. This is a part of a concerted effort to limit resources to the people in our communities who are in regular need of access to care. We join our partners in expressing deep concern about the impact that this will have on access to lifesaving reproductive and sexual health services as well as care for people with disabilities who rely on Medicaid for the medications and services that keep them alive every day.

"Slashing Medicaid impacts people from all backgrounds, lived experiences, and identities. "

“As a physician, I am concerned that I have seen less coverage about the impact this bill would have on access to gender affirming care, another critical and lifesaving service. As with all attacks on health care and public resources, queer and transgender individuals are disproportionately and inequitably impacted by restrictions on health care worsened by the existing stigma against trans people and the mis and dis-information about gender affirming care perpetuated by legislators intent on stripping our communities of their reproductive agency and autonomy. Trans people deserve ready access to quality, compassionate and stigma-free health care. This bill would slash Medicaid coverage for all gender affirming health care for people of all ages and the ramifications will be tragic. We call on Senators to stop this bill in its tracks. Our communities are relying on you.”

PRH Fellow Dr. Ashley Jeanlus is setting the record straight on RFK Jr.’s false claims about mifepristone, calling out his misuse of flawed data to misrepresent the safety of a medication used safely by millions for decades.

"As an abortion provider, I know that attacks on mifepristone are attacks on the health and autonomy of the patients I care for every day.”

⚡NEW RESOURCE⚡ End the Harm: Support New York’s Maternal Health, Dignity, & Consent Act

[link removed] [[link removed]]

Too many pregnant and birthing people — especially Black, Latine, and Indigenous families — are drug tested without their consent, then reported to the family regulation system. This cruel, outdated practice isn’t based on medical evidence. It’s rooted in racism and the failed war on drugs.

Our new policy memo [[link removed]] outlines the medical, legal, and ethical harms of “test and report” practices and makes the case for passing New York’s Maternal Health, Dignity, & Consent Act.

Alongside it, our easy-to-read explainer [[link removed]] [[link removed]] breaks down what’s happening, who’s affected, and why informed consent is essential for patients, providers, and families.
It’s time to end “test and report” and replace fear-based practices with care rooted in trust, dignity, and consent. Everyone deserves respectful, evidence-based care. With the Maternal Health, Dignity, & Consent Act , New York has the chance to lead by example.
