VIDEO OF THE DAY: FEMA staff baffled after head said he was unaware of US hurricane season, sources say
You'd have to literally be living under a rock in a cave in the Mojave Desert to not be at least cursorily *aware* of the fact that large parts of the United States have to endure hurricane season every year. To be the DIRECTOR OF FEMA and not know this is such an astounding display of unacceptable incompetence that David Richardson, who Trump tapped to lead the agency earlier this spring, should be fired on the spot. Folks, we don't mean to alarm you, but the people in charge might not know what they are doing.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump hit with more bad news on the economy
US manufacturing has predictably contracted for the second consecutive month, thanks in large part to the MAGA cult leader's incredibly stupid and ongoing tariff crusade. Donald Trump's oft-promised and ballyhooed manufacturing boon is as mythical as trickle-down economics, which we've been told since, oh, dunno, the early 1980s is just around the bend. Folks, you're more likely to encounter Bigfoot before the wannabe dictator's "golden age" of making shit in America ever arrives.

Top scientist takes on the GOP's crusade of ignorance
Jasmine Clark for Georgia: Trump, RFK Jr., and the rest of their cronies in Congress have taken a chainsaw to our scientific research, public health, climate initatives, and are waging an all out-war on science and the truth. PhD scientist Dr. Jasmine Clark has had enough, and she's running for Congress in order to restore sanity to the government and make America a global leader in scientific development once again. Will you chip in to help jump-start her campaign and flip the House blue?
Israeli special operations veteran pitches Orwellian "AI-powered threat detection system" to scan the internet for "radicalization"
An Israeli special operations veteran took to the fearmongering Fox News airwaves to publicly pitch Donald Trump on a definitely-not-terrifying new "AI-powered" tool he claims can scan the internet for "radicalization" and supposedly thwart evil-doers before they have a chance to attack. Speaking to Sean Hannity, Aaron Cohen explained: "Let me say this, I have just built, Sean, the first AI-powered threat detection system for law enforcement that scans the open web for radicalization and tactical planning. If somebody in the Trump administration is listening, partner with me and let’s scale this and get local law enforcement the tools they need. My technology will prevent these threats from popping off. You have to get in front of these, the technology is here, the Israeli model means Palantir-quality engineering, and I've got it and the White House needs to give me a buzz, and let’s get this thing scaled nationally, and it’s called GIDEON." Highly recommended for fans of precognition, Big Brother (the ruler, not the show), and permanent, cold-sweat nightmares.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says Netanyahu should be tried for war crimes at The Hague
During an interview with former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Piers Morgan asked, "When you say that Israel’s forces are now committing war crimes, that’s obviously a very serious charge. Do you believe that this will inevitably now end up in the International Criminal Courts at the Hague?" Olmert answered, "Up until recently, there was an international consensus that the Israeli operation was inevitable and acceptable and justified, and I entirely subscribe to this, as most of the Israelis did for obvious reasons because of what happened on the 7th of October... But 20 months passed since then. Everything that can be achieved by a military operation has been achieved, and tens of thousands of Palestinians were killed. Probably a large number of them were fighters of Hamas and they deserve the punishment, okay? But thousands were not, and now the question is what else can we achieve by expanding the military operation which can justify the cost? The cost for us, the cost for the hostages, and the cost of non-involved Palestinians. And the feeling is that we have come to a point where a leadership decision has to be made to stop it, and the majority of Israelis believe that Netanyahu carries on and wants to expand it, not because of any national interest that justifies it, but because of political considerations. What is it if not a crime?" Pressed again by Morgan on the specific question of trying Netanyahu for war crimes, Olmert went further, stating, "Look, there should be a voice, and if as a result of the fact that I was prime minister and I’m fairly well known in the international community that people want to hear what I have to say, I have to say it, yes."

"Sesame Street" Pride post triggers conservatives into meltdown mode
It wouldn't be Pride Month without right-wing culture crusaders and basement-dwelling keyboard warriors absolutely losing their shit over puppets asking people to be kind to each other. The latest unforgivable offense? A simple tweet from the iconic Henson franchise that reads: "On our street, everyone is welcome. Together, let’s build a world where every person and family feels loved and respected for who they are. Happy #PrideMonth!" Absolute monsters!
Louisiana Republicans pass bill "banning" chemtrails, which are not a real thing
Other legislative priorities currently under consideration by this extremely serious and well-educated body of lawmakers include banning soy products to stop the spread of homosexuality, decisive action to curb the epidemic of cooling pies stolen from window sills, and banning the Honey Island Swamp Monster from participating in high school sports.
Major corporations — including Oracle, McDonald’s, and Morgan Stanley — are dumping law firms that caved to Trump
The spineless law firms that caved to Donald Trump’s authoritarian demands to provide him with HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in pro bono legal work to avoid targeted persecution are losing major clients as a direct result of their appeasement, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Maybe fecklessness and weakness aren't exactly the virtues these bozos thought they were?
Trump administration uses Colorado flamethrower attack suspect’s status to push deportation agenda
The immigration status of the man who allegedly attacked people with a makeshift flamethrower and other incendiary devices at an event for Israeli hostages in Boulder, Colorado, has become further fodder for the Trump administration’s heartless deportation agenda. Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old who came to the US in 2022 from Egypt and overstayed his initial tourist visa, according to the US government, allegedly planned his attack on the event specifically to target Zionists, federal authorities said. He shouted "Free Palestine" while carrying out the attack, which the FBI has called an "act of terrorism," and he was charged on Monday with a federal hate crime. The attack combines two frequent enemies of the right — anti-Israel speech and actions, and illegal immigration — and is already being used on the right to garner support for more deportations. The response stands in contrast to how the right has reacted to attacks against Palestinians and Muslims in the US and to the conservative response to the war in Gaza.
ICE arrest of high school student during graduation weekend sends shock waves through a Massachusetts town
Marcelo Gomes Da Silva, an 18-year-old high school junior who was born in Brazil but has lived in Milford, Massachusetts, since he was 6, was driving to volleyball practice with some of his teammates when ICE agents reportedly looking for his father pulled him over. Gomes Da Silva was then taken to a detention center where he "remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings." Though "he was not the target of the investigation," Gomes Da Silva was arrested during a monthlong targeted sweep of brown-skinned people in Massachusetts that has resulted in the arrests of nearly 1,500 immigrants, Boston's ICE Field Officer Patricia H. Hyde openly admitted at a news conference. "When we go out into the community and we find others who are unlawfully here, we are going to arrest them," Hyde said. "We've been completely transparent with that." Ah, yes. Transparency! It's not the systemic disappearing of members of our communities that's the problem, it's the manner in which they're disappeared! It's not fascistic if it happens in plain sight! Got it.
Worcester father of 4-month-old deported after ICE "violated his rights," attorney says
Oh, look. Another immigrant nightmare story out of Massachusetts, courtesy of the home-wrecking, jackbooted, "law & order" Trump regime. Samarone Alves Ferreira-De Souza, a Worcester resident and father of a 4-month-old child, was deported to Fortaleza, Brazil, in late May after ICE thugs denied him any semblance of due process and signed a deportation authorization document in his name without his permission. Ferreira-De Souza was arrested by ICE on May 7 after he honked at an undercover car with ICE agents in while he was driving to work. According to his attorney, ICE officials asked Ferreira-De Souza if he would sign a form authorizing his deportation. When he refused, they simply signed it "on his behalf" and disappeared him out of the country without any legitimate hearings all the same. But wait, there's always more. Ferreira-De Souza's partner, 21-year-old Augusta Clara Moura, witnessed the targeted arrest of her mother, 40-year-old Rosane Ferreira-De Oliveira of Brazil, by ICE goons one day after her partner disappeared. Faced with the prospect of raising her infant child alone, Clara Moura has decided to join her husband in Brazil, leaving her two underage siblings in the custody and care of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. Let's hear it for the party of FaMiLy VaLuEs™, eh?
