Friend,
Throughout Gun Violence Awareness month, Community Justice has worked to center and tell the stories of survivors, while also lifting up the work that our partners are leading to end police violence, prioritize public health approaches over policing, and invest in community-based solutions.
And as we continue to observe both Gun Violence Awareness Month and Pride Month, we must stand together and firmly call for the end of all forms of violence against our Black trans sisters, brothers, and non-binary family. We must affirm boldly that Black Trans Lives Matter.
This week, we invite you to stand in solidarity with the Black trans community, while also taking action, organizing, and healing from the constant threats against our loved ones.
- Donate to Martha P. Johnson Institute: Today and always, we stand with the Black Trans community to call for action in the death of Dominique "Rem'Mie" Fells, 27, of Philadelphia, Riah Milton, 25, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and all other Trans Black Americans who have been murdered and impacted by acts of violence. Help us continue to learn from and partner with leaders of the movement to prevent violence by donating to the Martha P. Johnson Institute, a nonprofit organization working to protect and defend the human rights of Black transgender people.
- National Day of Healing: To celebrate Juneteenth, we'll come together with partners to host National Day of Healing for our minds, bodies, and spirits. We will address layers of trauma, celebrate life and life lost, and learn techniques on how to stay healthy during these difficult times. Register here to attend. This event will also be part of the larger push from the Movement for Black Lives week of action to defend and support Black lives.
- Join us Monday, June 29th at 4pm ET as we close out Gun Violence Awareness month with our “State of Black and Brown Communities: Gun Violence Prevention Policy” webinar. Register here to attend.
In solidarity,
