Hello,

Yesterday morning, it was legal in a majority of states for an employer to fire workers on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity. No more.

In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court ruled yesterday that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects the LGBTQ community from discrimination in the workplace.

The days of being fired simply because of who you are or who you love are over. This is a landmark victory for civil rights in America.

Even as we celebrate this historic victory, we know that we must also get back to work to protect LGBTQ Americans from discrimination in all areas of American life -- from housing and health care to the justice system.

You have my commitment to continue leading that fight here in New York City.

I’m spending some time today reflecting on this landmark achievement for LGBTQ Americans and remembering all the leaders who made this possible. I hope you will too.

All my best,

— Corey
