John xxxxxx,
In the past few weeks, we’ve seen progress in reforming policing and criminal justice in America. The voices and actions of people like you across the country are what's driving change. It's demonstrable proof that the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Rayshard Brooks were not just the next moments in an awful history, but rather the next sparks in a movement for change. New York has repealed the law that concealed police disciplinary records and banned chokeholds. The Louisville Metro Council passed Breonna's Law, outlawing no-knock warrants. The Minneapolis School Board voted to end its contract with police. These changes didn't just happen overnight. It took decades of fighting and millions of Americans speaking up to make this kind of progress. Now, it's time for Congress to act. House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries led with more than 200 of his colleagues in Congress as co-sponsors of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020, the next step toward comprehensive police reform in America. But it will take a groundswell of grassroots support to make real change. Will you become a citizen co-sponsor of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020 by adding your name in support now? One law alone won’t fix the systemic inequities that impact Black people in this country every day, but it’s an essential step toward ensuring justice and accountability in policing. If you agree we need real, meaningful police reform, can you become a citizen co-sponsor of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020? Hakeem's working tirelessly to get this bill passed — and he's grateful for all that you are doing to rise to this momentous occasion and fight for justice.
