Dear Comrades,
We’re asking all members to join us tomorrow Tuesday, June 3rd at 5:00 PM at City Hall - 200 Lincoln Av, for a critical special governing body meeting. We’ll be there to demand real accountability and oversight of Urban Alchemy (UA) or any agency that may take over shelter operations in Santa Fe. UA is facing multiple lawsuits and serious allegations, including physical assault and harassment of houseless individuals in other cities.
We’ll be pushing for five urgent strategies: clear employee identification and reporting procedures, independent oversight via a grievance process or citizens board, strict limits on UA’s authority outside shelters, meaningful community engagement in operations, and a sustained commitment to being a low/no barrier shelter. Without these protections, the most vulnerable in our community could be at serious risk!
We need your help to show up, speak out, and ensure the City takes this responsibility seriously. Whether you want to provide public comment, support others, or simply learn more about the issues, your presence is powerful.
You can read more about UA’s track record in a recent article from The Nation, which highlights why strong safeguards must be in place before any expansion of their role here. Let’s stand together to demand dignity, transparency, and real community care in how Santa Fe supports our houseless neighbors.
In solidarity,
Santa Fe DSA
