Folks,
Yemen — the world's worst humanitarian crisis — is facing an even deadlier turmoil as COVID-19 sweeps through the country and violence surges.
In the first half of last month, 950 people died in Yemen's capital Aden—nearly four times as many as in the whole month of March. And today, it is clear that any hopes of a ceasefire have collapsed with the news of increased airstrikes bombarding the country.
This is urgent. Working around the clock, our teams continue to deliver emergency health care and nutrition to those displaced by the conflict. But we need your help right now to deliver more life-saving supplies. Please will you chip in today to help us reach more families in Yemen and around the world? »
"We cannot control a global pandemic amongst bombs and airstrikes." — Tamuna Sabedze, IRC Yemen Country Director
Years of conflict have decimated Yemen's healthcare system and left only half of health facilities fully functional, leaving children and families across the country in crisis.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been driven into refugee camps by war and the violence it brings. Overcrowded shelters, the threat of endemic diseases like cholera, malnutrition, and lack of sanitation - have created the ideal conditions for the spread of COVID-19. Please can you help today?
The true scale of this pandemic is still unknown. In Aden, there have been huge spikes in death rate recorded in recent days, but with one of the lowest testing capabilities in the world, most COVID-19 cases will go untested and undetected.
This will allow a deadly pandemic to rip through Yemen's already vulnerable population, wreaking even more havoc on its people.
With your support, IRC teams can continue to rush supplies and aid to those who need it most — while continuing our life-saving programs around the world. »
There are 500+ IRC aid workers on the ground in Yemen providing health, nutrition, clean water and sanitation services. But we need to reach more people. Please make a donation today so that we can bring even more critical aid to where it's needed most.
By giving today, you'll help us provide emergency protective gear, virus screenings, hand-washing stations and essentials to combat COVID-19 and continue our life-saving work.
Yemen is in crisis and we need you to help us act now so we can save as many lives as possible — both in Yemen and across the world.
Thank you in advance,
Emily Martin
