It’s time to proclaim in one voice that Black Lives Matter
Hi Friend,
Hundreds of thousands of Black leaders and organizers have been leading the way these past few weeks to resist and fight back against systemic racism, police brutality and injustice. There is no doubt that when we come together we make magic happen! Victories are closer to our horizon than ever before. So, we can’t give up! This Juneteenth is a rare moment for our communities to proclaim in one voice that Black Lives Matter, and that we won’t tolerate anything less than equity, liberation and true safety for all people. [Friend, totally get if you don’t know what Juneteenth means, by the way. Just scroll below to find out a little bit more!]
Can you take part in actions to proclaim Black Lives Matter on Juneteenth (Friday, June 19) and through the weekend as part of national days of action anchored by the Movement for Black Lives? There are hundreds of events across the country AND online. Click here to find one near you.
And remember that whether you take action from home or in person, there is something for you to do. Here are the demands we’ll jointly be making:
1) Defund the Police
2) Invest in Black Communities and
3) Call for the Resignation of Donald Trump.
This Friday, June 19, marks the 135th anniversary of Juneteenth! On Juneteenth (June 19th) in 1865, two full years after the emancipation proclamation was announced, Black people in Texas finally received the news that they were free. Juneteenth is a day that honors Black freedom and Black resistance, and centers Black people’s unique contribution to the struggle for liberation in the U.S.
In order for us to lay a path to freedom for future generations, Friend, we all need to take action right now. Help us share the graphic below to ensure even more folks join and let’s make the #SixNineteen a historic event. 🔥
