Friend — Elon Musk called Social Security ‘a Ponzi scheme.’
I think that’s idiotic.
Social Security was created almost a century ago, and is one of the most successful government programs in American history. It’s simple: We all pay our hard-earned money into Social Security over the years, and when we retire, we are guaranteed a baseline income to stay afloat.
It has kept tens of millions of people out of poverty, and ensured that workers can successfully retire instead of staying on the job into their later years. I see taking care of our seniors as a core responsibility of our society — a responsibility that helps everyone and makes our economy stronger.
But Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and the entire Republican party have made it clear that they are deadset on cutting this bedrock program.
Rather than expand a successful program to help more people, they want Grandma and Grandpa to receive less money each month just to pay for a huge tax cut for billionaires like Musk.
Like I said, it’s idiotic and despicable, and I will fight against any and all cuts to Social Security.
If we are going to protect Social Security, we have to apply grassroots pressure and make sure Republicans know they will be acting against the overwhelming majority of American voters who oppose any and all cuts.
The cruelty from the billionaire class is shocking, but par for the course. It’s up to us to bring the fight to them and protect the progress we’ve made for the working class in this nation.
