Dear Friends and Neighbors,
It’s been a little while since my last update, mainly because there hasn’t been much new to report. When the regular session adjourned on May 19, several key budget bills were still unresolved. Since then, legislative working groups have been meeting regularly to hammer out the remaining details and reach final agreements.
Thankfully, we’re finally making headway. Many of those budget workgroups have now wrapped up or are close to finalizing agreements, with a couple of exceptions. That means a special session could begin as early as later this week, depending on how quickly the non-partisan staff can complete the final bill language. If more time is needed for that drafting process, we may see a start early next week instead.
Speaker Demuth and Governor Walz have continued to meet to discuss timing, and I remain hopeful we’ll be able to reconvene soon and finish the job. I know how important these decisions are to the people and communities we serve, and I want to assure you that I’ll continue working hard to ensure the final budget reflects our community’s priorities.
As always, I’ll keep you informed once we’re back and will provide an update on some of the major provisions that pass during the special session. Thank you all for staying informed and engaged. I look forward to another update soon.
