Josh's Journal >>>

We hope you enjoyed your weekend and are excited for the start of summer, John!

There’s a lot happening in North Carolina that we don’t want you to miss hearing about — jobs are coming to the state, it’s graduation season for high school and college students, and we’re even hosting international sporting events. Read below to catch up on Josh’s work this past month. 👇

Commemorating Memorial Day

“Throughout our nation’s history, North Carolinians have answered the call to serve our country and protect our freedoms, and this weekend we honor those who paid the ultimate price in that service. Anna’s and my heart are with all the North Carolinians who are mourning their loved ones. Let us honor their legacy by preserving their memories, celebrating their bravery, and nourishing our democracy.” — Gov. Josh Stein

Governor Stein proclaimed Law Enforcement Officers Month and Peace Officers Memorial Day

The brave men and women in North Carolina’s law enforcement agencies dedicate their careers to serving and protecting our communities. We all benefit from the safety, security, and protection they provide.

Law Enforcement Officers Month honors those who play an essential role in safeguarding North Carolinians’ freedoms, lives, and property.

Watch his statement to law enforcement leaders below 👇

Law enforcement officers across North Carolina are tasked with keeping us safe – a challenging and difficult job that is too often underappreciated. I am grateful to celebrate and recognize the law enforcement leaders during Law Enforcement Appreciation Month.

Opening Paddy Mountain Park and Trail

Governor Stein was proud to join Blue Ridge Conservancy (BRC) to officially open Paddy Mountain Park near West Jefferson earlier this month. BRC and other partners spent a decade working to bring this moment to fruition and conserve more of the natural beauty that makes this state so special.

“North Carolina’s parks are integral to our state’s quality of life and economy. We are all grateful that so many organizations and agencies came together to open Paddy Mountain Park for future generations of North Carolinians to enjoy.” — Gov. Josh Stein

Paddy Mountain Park Trail is open! If you are out west, plan a hike, and witness North Carolina’s rich, natural beauty.

Celebrating the PGA Championship in Charlotte

Josh was pleased to attend the PGA Championship, which took place in Charlotte earlier this month. Check out his message from the links 👇

⛳️ Golf is an important part of North Carolina’s culture and economy. I'm excited for Charlotte to host the @PGAChampionship for the second time and hopefully more in the years to come. The tournament should generate more than $100M in economic activity for the region. And by the way, these guys are good.

Honoring graduates in western NC!

To honor western North Carolina graduates’ achievements and resiliency in the wake of Hurricane Helene, Governor Stein delivered remarks at the commencement ceremonies of Appalachian State University, Western Carolina University, and Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College earlier this month. Watch a clip from his address to AB Tech 👇

My wish for the Class of 2025 – stay open to new opportunities and possibilities.

Bringing economic opportunity to NC

Our economy is growing, and more companies are coming to North Carolina all the time. Gentech recently announced its first East Coast production facility will be right here in Holly Springs!

World-class companies are coming to North Carolina because they know we are a leader in biotechnology. @genentech's first production facility on the East Coast is coming to Holly Springs and will create 400 new and good-paying jobs.

And finally… did you know Josh could play…

Soccer. He was pretty good in high school! And his senior class state championship team was just inducted into the Chapel Hill High School Hall of Fame! ⚽

My senior year high school soccer team got inducted into the Chapel Hill High School Hall of Fame this weekend — what an honor! Playing on the 1983 state championship team was a truly special experience, and my teammates remain some of my best friends. I’m sad I couldn’t be there to reunite and celebrate this weekend. Congrats to the entire team, thanks Coach Larry Bosc, and go Tigers!

Those are some May highlights, John, but you can stay up to date with Josh’s work on Instagram, X, Facebook, and in our next edition of Josh’s Journal!

Thank you,

Team Stein
