Hi John,

You’re changing the debate on Ottawa’s so-called gun ban and buyback.

You and I both know wasting taxpayers’ money to take guns away from licenced Canadian gun owners won’t do anything to make Canadians safer.

And so does the rest of the country.

Supporters like you chipped in to commission a poll asking Canadians what they thought was the most effective way to reduce gun crime.

And 55 per cent of Canadians said that focusing on stopping gun smuggling, not banning guns, is the most effective way to make Canadians safer.

We shared the results of that poll far and wide, making sure that politicians in Ottawa know that Canadians think the gun ban is a bad idea.

“Most Canadians want feds to focus on gun crime, not confiscation: Poll,” read the headline in the Toronto Sun.

And Canadians have the facts on their side:
* Since the gun ban and buyback was announced, violent gun crime in Canada has increased.
* The Toronto Police Association says: “There is no evidence that gun bans are effective in reducing this violence, particularly when 85 per cent of guns seized by our members can be traced back to the United States.”
* The National Police Federation, the union representing the RCMP, says Ottawa’s buyback “diverts extremely important personnel, resources, and funding away from addressing the more immediate and growing threat of criminal use of illegal firearms.”

The government shouldn’t be wasting potentially billions of dollars on a scheme that isn’t going to make Canadians safer.

But YOU know how important it is to keep fighting. You can join thousands of other taxpayers to keep pushing politicians until the gun ban and buyback is gone for good.

You can get prepared for that fight by signing the petition calling on Ottawa to scrap the gun ban.

Once you’re signed up, you’ll be the first to know when it’s the perfect time to take action.

Will you sign the PETITION to call on the federal government to scrap the gun ban and buyback?

We, the undersigned, call on the prime minister to scrap the gun ban and buyback.
