Yesterday marked a MAJOR victory for the LGBTQ+ community!

After half a century of organizing, protesting, seeking change in local and state policy, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled yesterday that individuals are Constitutionally protected from employment descrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and queer people.

The Court’s ruling focused on the Civil Rights Act of 1964, specifically Title VII, which bars descrimination based on sex. This precedent could help gain future protections for the LGBTQ+ community from discrmination regarding housing, service, and other issues.

So this Pride Month, we’re celebrating a BIG win that was generations in the making. But, the fight for equal rights isn’t over.

Just this week the Trump administration revoked transgender health protections, overtuning protections set forth in the Affordable Care Act.

The Department of Health and Famiy services said it will only enforce sex discrimination protections under the “plain meaning of the word ‘sex' as male or female and as determined by biology.”

It is unclear if the current Supreme Court ruling will apply to these abhorrent and bigoted changes by a runaway Administration.

What is clear, is that we need a Congress willing to stand up and fight for the LGBTQ+ community. We need representatives who will set the standard of what it means to support equal rights for all. That’s why we need YOU with us every step on this path to equality.

We are supporting our New York Nine, including AOC. We are also witnessing tremendous momentum for Charles Booker in his U.S. Senate race in Kentucky to unseat Mitch McConnell. This is a chance for the progressive movement to prove what we are made of!
