Dear
John,
I’m honored to write to you today as the new Chief Executive Officer of Voting Rights Lab. Stepping into this role at such a pivotal moment for our democracy is both humbling and deeply personal.
I grew up in rural Oregon in a working-class family. My parents taught me the value of hard work, nurtured my deep sense of fairness, and encouraged me to ask hard questions about the world around me. Then, when I was 21, I met a professional organizer — and everything changed. I saw how everyday people like me could drive real change, door by door, person by person.
That moment has shaped my path ever since. I’ve worked at the intersection of advocacy, organizing, and public policy. I’ve led successful, cross-partisan campaigns in red, blue and purple states – bringing together unlikely allies like moms, gun owners, women of faith, students, veterans, and business leaders to build a stronger, more responsive democracy.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: the most powerful movements are built on a clear commitment to impact, rooted in local relationships, and sustained by trust.
This has been at the heart of Voting Rights Lab’s approach since Megan Lewis and I co-founded the organization in 2017. From the beginning, we’ve been relationship-driven, state-focused, and relentless in pursuit of results. We deliver trusted analysis and actionable insights – and we win policy fights, even in the toughest terrain.
You have been with us on the frontlines to secure free and fair elections — and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. The road ahead won’t be easy, and we must remain clear-eyed about the challenges. But I know we can win — because of this community and the grit and tenacity we’ve shown time and again.
With deep appreciation,
Sam Tarazi
Chief Executive Officer
Voting Rights Lab
