Dear John,
Young people deserve sex education that’s honest, inclusive, and actually useful—not outdated, abstinence-only programs that put them at risk.
For decades, federal funding has supported shame-based sex ed that denies young people the critical information they need about their bodies, relationships, and health. That has to change.
It’s time for Congress to pass the Real Education and Access for Healthy Youth Act (REAHYA).
REAHYA would:
- Fund honest, medically accurate sex education nationwide
- Eliminate harmful abstinence-only-until-marriage funding
- Support youth-serving orgs reaching marginalized communities
- Train educators to teach inclusive, evidence-based content
Young people need sex ed that reflects their lives, not politics. That means covering:
- Human development
- Consent and communication
- Contraception, abstinence, and STI prevention
- Gender identity and sexual orientation
- Access to care and services
The stats are clear: Young people make up just 25% of the sexually active population, yet they account for nearly half of all new STIs. HIV rates are rising among youth—especially young men of color who have sex with men.
We can’t ignore the consequences of bad policy any longer.
Take action today: Use our quick form to send a letter to your members of Congress urging them to support REAHYA. You can personalize it or send it as is.
Young people deserve real sex ed, not shame, silence, or misinformation.
In Solidarity,
Mo Shora
