Write to your Senators: vote no on the dangerous budget bill!
|
Dear Friend,
I’m writing to give you an important update on the budget bill currently moving through Congress.
The good news: Thanks to the massive outcry, including swift action by members like you, the “nonprofit killer” language is no longer in the bill, at least for now. This unpopular provision would have given the current administration more power in silencing dissent and opposition in the United States by designating any group as a “terrorist-supporting organization” and potentially stripping them of their tax-exempt status.
This was the third attempt to pass this legislation -- and the third time that we’ve collectively defeated it.
But here’s the bad news, and it’s bad: The rest of the budget bill is still moving forward. And it would funnel billions of dollars in critical funding to weapons contractors, private prison profiteers, and the administration’s billionaire backers.
How will they pay for it? By gutting vital and life-giving programs like Medicaid and SNAP that millions of people across the U.S. rely on.
The current administration, along with its corporate cronies, seems to be trying hard to make themselves richer and more powerful as they attempt to sell off our public services for private profits -- at the expense of the rest of us. And we have to make sure that they won’t get away with it. So, take action now and let your Senators know they must vote no on this budget bill.

Tell your Senators: Vote NO on the big bad budget bill! |
|
No matter where we live, what we look like, or how much money we have, most of us want to live in safety and security.
But right now, the Trump administration and its billionaire backers are trying their best to gut the governmental programs and policies that protect our health, our lives, and the environment -- all so they can reap even more riches and consolidate even more power, at our expense.
This is what the budget bill currently moving through Congress will do. This budget risks funneling our taxes to corporate executives, billionaires, and a handful of elites. And to do that, they propose slashing social programs that provide critical assistance to millions of people across the U.S. every day.
We need all hands on deck to stop this big, bad bill today. Take action now and tell your Senators to vote no on this dangerous budget now!
