The Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor will be chosen in the primary election that is happening now through June 17th. I believe Levar Stoney is best suited for the job. Levar has solid experience as Mayor of Richmond and Secretary of the Commonwealth over the last 12 years, and a record of commitment and progress on the issues I see as most important for the Commonwealth over the years to come.

16 seconds from former Governor Terry McAuliffe on why he is for Levar Stoney

On the issues, Levar Stoney is focused on inclusive economic growth as we respond to the Trump cuts to our Federal employees, educational opportunity for all Virginians, housing affordability, and reproductive rights and health care. I believe these are the pivotal issues for Virginia's future.

As far as experience, as Mayor, Levar Stoney delivered significant economic growth for the City of Richmond over the last eight years. The role of Lieutenant Governor requires the ability to preside over the Senate as the day-to-day Chair of the legislative process. Levar's experience as Mayor, as Secretary of the Commonwealth for 4 years, and as Executive Director of the Virginia Democratic Party, along with my conversations with him, make me fully confident he would serve Virginia well.

As far as supporters, numerous local elected officials from Northern Virginia support him as well as leaders from across Virginia. Former Congressman Jim Moran and former Governor Terry McAuliffe also are supporting Levar and this morning former Presidential candidate and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttegieg endorsed him. The other role of the Lieutenant Governor when the Legislature is not in session is to rally Virginia Democrats to win elections. I know Levar Stoney can do that well in every part of the Commonwealth.
