When They Most Needed It, FRC Stood Up for Churches

Dear John,

With our nation at a breaking point, Americans are seeking solace from the turmoil and grief racking our country.

You have to wonder if the door to the current state of chaos in the nation was opened when the doors of so many churches were forced to close.

As this year's Easter Sunday approached -- the most important day of the church calendar and often a local church's best opportunity for sharing the good news of Christ in their community -- churches had to rethink their plans when CDC and state guidelines mandated social distancing.

Even as pastors strategized how to connect with people, while respecting the need for health and safety, some municipalities were intent on a discriminatory, pre-emptive strike.

Only five days before Easter, officials in San Bernardino County, California published a notice: "People may not leave their homes for drive-up services..."

With restaurants open for carryout and some states allowing abortion centers to continue operating, county policies targeting congregations were not only hypocritical, but also left many concerned about legal precedents being set.

In response, FRC joined several groups who spoke out on behalf of local churches as part of our inside-out strategy.

That means FRC maintains inside access to be your voice in the halls of power, while deeply connected outside Washington to citizens like you on the front lines... especially local pastors.

But we can only continue with your support. We have a crucial budget goal to meet before our fiscal year-end. If you donate before the June 30 deadline, your gift will be doubled. A gift of $50 will have the impact of $100... $250 becomes $500... and so on!

PROTECT RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

This spring in California, FRC joined efforts that pushed back against public officials with an agendaduring the virus outbreak. "It's alarming," said attorney Brad Dacus on FRC's radio show, whose group legally represented several churches that came under attack.

He continued in our interview: "They suddenly pronounced that churches couldn't hand out Easter baskets to people who were just driving up to the church. [Yet] people candrive up to get a Big Mac at McDonald's drive thru?"

A leading voice in FRC's Watchmen on the Wall pastors network, Pastor Jack Hibbs spoke personally to the county supervisor. Ultimately, San Bernardino County reversed course and allowed drive-in services.

FRC played a key role as churches grappled with difficult realities. In fact, the substance of behind-the-scenes talks between FRC leaders and public officials has been reflected in recent public policies and statements.

On Good Friday, April 10, Vice President Mike Pence spoke from the White House. He said:

"Allow me to remind you that -- even if you're not in the pew this Easter Sunday -- if you are able, it's still a good idea to give. Those ministries continue to go forward, and we encourage you to continue to support them."

That important message from the highest office in the land was vital during the pandemic, and FRC remains a trusted voice among national leaders. If you're able to, can you support FRC as we strive to meet this important budget goal before the June 30 deadline?

Right now, people are searching for hope and truth. You and your local congregation have a crucial role to play in serving people in your community... so FRC will keep on equipping, informing, and empowering you in your purpose of being salt and light.

In the current climate, FRC's role of amplifying your voice to key leaders is critical. If you're able, can you give to further our work of education and mobilization during this time?

P.S. - On March 20, President Trump made time to briefly join an FRC conference call with pastors. On the call, which was later shared with our network of over 15,000 pastors and leaders, the president said, "I want to thank you for praying for our country and for those who are sick. You do such an incredible job. You're very inspirational people, and I'm with you all the way."

Your spirit and stand also inspires us every day. Your gift to FRC today -- that will be doubled -- makes all of this possible.
