"Three Open Houses Scheduled Throughout the Summer
"
*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 2, 2025*
*LANSING, MICH.* The Michigan State Police (MSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) [ [link removed] ] is opening three of its highway weigh stations, roadside facilities where commercial vehicles are assessed for safety, to the public this summer in hopes of attracting interest from job seekers and to educate drivers.
“This is a unique opportunity to see what our motor carrier officers do, realistically and in real time, at one of our state-of-the-art weigh stations,” said Capt. Keyonn Whitfield, commander of the MSP/CVED. “Whether they are performing a safety inspection to ensure loads are secured properly, checking tire pressure or confirming driver credentials, the work our motor carrier officers perform daily contributes to safer roads for everyone who travels on them.”
Motor carrier officers are armed, uniformed members of the MSP who enforce traffic safety laws on commercial vehicles and protect infrastructure by assessing commercial vehicle size and weight. They also conduct commercial vehicle and driver inspections and contribute to homeland security efforts by enforcing hazardous material regulations.
“Our motor carrier officers screen more than 4 million commercial vehicles each year while on patrol or at any one of 14 weigh stations across Michigan,” said Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP. “In recent years, many of these facilities have been rebuilt or newly constructed to ensure our motor carrier officers have the tools and resources they need to enhance traffic safety and protect the roads we all use.”
This summer, open houses will be held at three weigh stations, allowing attendees to meet with MSP CVED personnel, experience a commercial vehicle inspection and learn about jobs with the MSP. Interested applicants will even be able to complete the physical agility test on-site. The locations and dates are as follows:
Monroe Weigh Station I-75 Northbound
Monday, June 16 - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Vehicles can use the ramp to the scales, drive in the outside lane to the opposite side of the facility and then turn right to park near the rear of the building."
New Buffalo Weigh Station Eastbound Weigh Station
Wednesday, July 30 - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Vehicles can use the ramp to the scales, drive in the outside lane to the opposite side of the facility and then turn right to park near the rear of the building."
