Dear John,
A massive corporate merger is threatening to make internet access even more unequal – and we must act now to stop it.
Charter Communications and Cox are pushing to merge into a $34.5 billion telecom giant. If approved, this deal would create one of the most powerful cable and broadband conglomerates in the country, slashing competition and tightening corporate control over how millions of Americans get online.
For families already struggling with overpriced, underperforming internet, this merger would only make things worse: fewer providers, higher bills, slower speeds, and less accountability.
And for rural communities, low-income neighborhoods, and communities of color that already face systemic barriers to reliable broadband, this merger threatens to deepen the digital divide, leaving many even further behind in an increasingly connected world.
This is not just a consumer issue – it’s a civil rights issue. Tell the FCC to block the Charter-Cox merger now.
Reliable, affordable internet is a necessity in the modern world. It’s how kids do homework, how workers apply for jobs, how patients access telehealth, and how families stay informed. But when two corporate giants combine, their bottom line comes first – not equitable access.
What’s worse, Charter is reportedly using MAGA-style rhetoric to win political favor from the Trump administration, turning broadband access into a partisan bargaining chip. That’s not just cynical – it’s dangerous. We need impartial, public-interest regulation of our communications infrastructure, not backroom deals built on political loyalty.
If allowed to proceed, this merger would accelerate the monopolization of our internet and cable systems. It would give more power to the few, while leaving millions with fewer options and worse service.
The FCC can and must stop this. But the clock is ticking. This deal could close within weeks.
Under the law, the FCC must reject mergers that do not serve the public interest – and this one fails that test at every level. Workers could face layoffs. Consumers could face price hikes. Communities could be left behind.
Tell the FCC: Say no to consolidation. Say no to inequality. Block the Charter-Cox merger now.
Thank you for demanding an internet that works for everyone – not just those who can afford it.
