Celebrate Pride Month in PA

Pride Month has always been about protest as much as celebration, but with the LGBTQ+ community under attack from the Trump administration and conservative politicians all over America, it is more important than ever to stand together, show strength, fight back against an oppressive government, celebrate collective queer joy, and party the night away. Yes, we need to fight, but Pride Month is also about coming together in community to have fun together and to forget worries for a while, surrounded by other queer people. So let’s come together in solidarity, demand civil rights, and celebrate with a month-long party!

Build the Green Party and Run for Local Office

By Michael Bagdes-Canning

I am a Green running for re-election as Mayor of Cherry Valley Borough in northern Butler County. I have asked the Green Party of Pennsylvania to endorse my candidacy at their next State Committee meeting. I became a Green after 42 years of settling for less as a Democrat. I have remained a Green these last 15 years because I want to be part of a party that stands for something.

As a Green Mayor of a tiny borough, I have worked hard to build trust with my neighbors. Our rural borough has watched for the last 50 years as jobs have left the region and our children have followed. We have been ignored and ridiculed by the Democrats and patronized and hoodwinked by the Republicans. Both corporate parties do the bidding of the plutocrats and spit on the people who elect them...

I am a Green because of our 4 Pillars and 10 Key Values. Everything I do is shaped by that framework. However, we need to remember that we don’t win with ideas; we win with relationships. We need to think of ourselves as organizers first. We aren’t working to win elections; we are working to build power. Green values are meaningless if they are divorced from relationship building and Green action...

I have asked the Green Party of Pennsylvania to endorse my candidacy, and I call on Greens across the state to work at building the Party by engaging in the work of organizing. Talk with your neighbors, build the movement, be seen being Green. When the time is right, run for office in your town or borough.

Green Party Has "Hands On" World Peace

By Erin King (Centre County)

Steering Committee, Green Party of Pennsylvania

Following the massive "Hands Off" demonstration on April 5, the Green Party asked its leaders to describe what the Green Party had its "Hands On.

Although I was a lifelong Democrat until 2024, I'd had my doubts about some Democrats in office. For the most part, I held my faith that many of them were determined to uplift the working class and remain on the right side of history...I knew even prior to 2024 that I would never again vote for Joe Biden. I also did not feel any better about the prospect of voting for Kamala Harris...Once I decided to shut out all the ignorant screeching from the neoliberals and started to research the Green Party on my own, I discovered that this is where I need to be.

One stance on which the Green Party is clearly "Hands-On" is that of being for World Peace, which resonates with me like never before. The Green Party truly cares about the American people and wants to create a country that works the way it's supposed to for all Americans and not just the billionaire class .The Green Party is against the money-torching, soul-crushing war machine that has taken over our economy for an eternity. Instead of rebuilding our infrastructures, investing in more modern, reliable public transportation across the country on a grander scale (similar to what exists in Europe), increasing funding for education, hospitals, healthcare, affordable housing, and mental healthcare, the vast majority of our taxes fund the U.S. military and endless, pointless wars and genocide...

STORY HERE

I believe in the Green Party and in its strong, overall message of "Hands On" inclusion, fairness and justice for all.

  • The Green Party has "Hands On" world peace.
  • The Green Party has "Hands On" an end to settler colonialism and the international crime of apartheid.
  • The Green Party has "Hands On" a 50 percent cut in the Pentagon budget.
  • The Green Party has "Hands On" closing more than 700 Pentagon bases abroad.
  • The Green Party has "Hands On" ending U.S. arms sales to other nations.
  • The Green Party has "Hands On" the U.S. ratification of the Treaty Prohibiting Nuclear

Campaign Updates

One Green Party candidate has been approved to run for local office this year. Other Green Party candidates who plan to run in 2025 or 2026 are welcome to contact GREEN STAR at [email protected].

Alex Noyle for Election to Auditor of East Norriton Township
Montgomery County
Alex Noyle told GREEN STAR, “I have never been more proud of Montco Greens. I want to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered for my campaign. This Primary Election Day, the Alex for Auditor Campaign surpassed our highest expectations. We started the day with 0 nomination signatures and ended it with 77, which is above the threshold we needed to get on the ballot! With over two months remaining to collect extra signatures to avoid a challenge, our position on the ballot for East Norriton Auditor on November 4 is near certain.  My gratitude is too great to put into words. Onward to Victory!”

Volunteers may email [email protected] or send a message on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Alex4Auditor

Greens Deplore Belgian Parliament’s Repeal  of Nuclear Phase-Out

The Belgian Federal Parliament adopted in plenary session the bill repealing the 2003 law on the nuclear phase-out. The text received broad support. Only Ecolo-Groen (Green Party]) voted against. The Socialist Party and the French Liberal Party abstained . . . . For Samuel Cogolati . . . the co-president of the Ecolo Party, the problem lies in what [they] are not doing: “Still no National Energy and Climate Plan, even though Europe is waiting for one. They are abandoning subsidies for green hydrogen, even though it’s the future for heavy industry. And even in Wallonia, they are cutting insulation subsidies, even though the cheapest energy is the one we don’t consume.”  STORY HERE

Portugal: People Call for Green Representation in Parliament

To ensure that the Greens speak out decisively and consistently in Parliament in favor of environmental and social justice, more than a hundred people gathered to sign a petition . . . . When the Green Party ceased to be represented in Parliament, environmental and sustainable development issues lost their place on the parliamentary agenda and were no longer regularly addressed in the Assembly of the Republic. Portugal’s Green Party (Partido Ecologista Os Verdes) has always been a driving force for debate and proposals that clearly reflect the urgency of ecological responses and has always championed the grievances and aspirations of the population—a coherent effort to promote environmental and social justice.
