Friend,

When I read what happened in Georgia last week on election day, I was furious -- but I was also scared.

I know the legacy of that state to suppress the vote. That legacy runs deep, and it should not go unnoticed that -- while there were irregularities and long lines throughout the state -- precincts with high concentrations of Black and Democratic voters seemed to be among the hardest hit.

My friend, Rev. Raphael Warnock, saw all of this firsthand. In a note to supporters last week, he noted the incredible activists who fought hard against exactly this type of voter suppression, from Martin Luther King Jr. and Rep. John Lewis to Stacey Abrams, and why it's so devastating to see it happening now, decades after so many demanded civil rights.

It's the deeply unfortunate and unfair truth that Rev. Warnock will have to fight twice as hard to overcome Republican voter suppression to win his toss-up Senate race in Georgia. That's why he needs our support, and he needs it now:

We're trying to raise $6,000 to support Rev. Warnock by Thursday's mid-month deadline, particularly in light of last week's unconscionable Georgia primary elections. He needs our support: Will you donate $5 or more to support Rev. Warnock right now?

I'm ready to make history in Georgia, and elect Rev. Warnock as the first Black senator in Georgia history. Georgia's voter suppression history runs deep, and we should be prepared for a fight ahead. But it's time to move forward -- and I hope I can count on your support to help do that.

Sincerely,

Chuck Schumer
