Serving Pennsylvania's 2nd District

Friend,

As the top Democrat on the House Budget Committee, I’ve led the fight in Washington against the Republican budget proposal that would do lasting damage to working families — and hit Philadelphia especially hard.

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Office, this budget would kick 13.7 million people off their health insurance. As if that wasn't bad enough, the Congressional Budget Office also confirmed to me that this bill would blow such a massive hole in the national debt that it would trigger the largest cuts to Medicare in American history.

Do you support increasing the national debt to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy?

This isn’t just an abstract debate in Washington — it’s personal. Nearly 44% of our neighbors in PA-02 rely on Medicaid, and this bill would gut it. At the same time, it would force families that are already struggling to pay more in taxes, while the wealthiest enjoy the biggest handouts.

I’ve battled every moment for the health care and services our families rely on. I worked through the night in the Ways and Means Committee, speaking on amendments to make the tax code fair. I stayed late on a Sunday in the Budget Committee, warning of the devastation this budget could bring — to our neighbors and to the nation’s financial stability.

Then, in another overnight hearing in the Rules Committee, I laid out the new CBO data showing just how reckless this proposal is. And after a 48-hour legislative marathon, I took that fight to the House floor, where I made sure Congress heard exactly what’s at stake.

This bill may have passed the House, but the fight is far from over. As it moves to the Senate, know that I’m not backing down. I’ll keep fighting for Philadelphia, for our neighborhoods, and for the future we all deserve.

Sincerely,
