John,
Today is a National Day of Action for Single Payer Healthcare for All (also known as expanded Medicare for All). In my district, my team is supporting a prayer service and rally for people who’ve been killed and harmed by our for-profit medical system.
People are demanding a system that puts people before profit, where healthcare is treated as the human right that it is. They’re demanding a publicly financed, national single payer program that would provide comprehensive coverage to everyone—and an end to medical debt.
With increasing attacks on healthcare access, activists are raising the alarm to not only protect our current coverage, but radically transform and improve it. I’m supporting Medicare for All legislation in Congress, but we need to get more members of Congress on board and prioritize this urgent issue.
Will you add your name today to demand Congress support universal healthcare for all?
You can also check out below for how to find in-person actions happening near you today. We know the vast majority of Americans support Medicare for All—even a majority of Republicans.
Our profit-driven healthcare system is killing us while enriching Big Pharma and health insurance CEOs. As more and more families struggle to pay bills and meet their needs, these companies are profiting off our pain. We urgently need to take the profit motive out of healthcare by passing improved and expanded Medicare for All.
The grassroots group National Single Payer explains: “A study published in 2021 in the Lancet found that a single payer financing system under Medicare for All would eliminate the high administrative costs of private insurance billing, marketing, and CEO salaries resulting in estimated administrative savings of $225 billion annually. The study also found that a single payer system would create efficiencies from negotiated drug prices and save over 68,000 lives every year.”
The lack of health insurance leads to thousands of preventable deaths each year—just because people can’t afford the care they need to survive. If Republicans' budget bill passes, millions will be kicked off their health insurance and more people will die. No one should have to die because they can’t afford care.
No family should ever face financial ruin because they got sick. But 90% of bankruptcies are due to extreme medical debt, and nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults have medical debt on their credit reports, which means they may be denied housing, employment, transportation, or other necessities because of a sudden health crisis or visit to the emergency room.
So I’ve passed policy and worked with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to take medical debt off people’s credit reports. Now I’m fighting to protect this progress from Trump’s attacks. And I’m continuing to fight for expanded Medicare for All, which would improve the successful and beloved government-run program for seniors to cover all U.S. residents and take care of people’s needs like dental and vision care and more.
As Trump and Republicans in Congress try to kick millions of Americans off public health insurance, we need to not only defend our current system but also demand real change so that everyone can access quality healthcare.
We must urgently save lives: Please sign to demand Congress guarantee quality healthcare for all.
