John,

These are extraordinary, difficult times. We are under attack on every front.

And yet we find reasons for hope.

Yesterday was an amazing example: the highest court in the land, the United States Supreme Court, for the first time ruled that LGBT Americans are protected by the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

As a society, we are only as strong as our most vulnerable community members. And our legal system is only as just as our least protected Americans.

Which is why yesterday’s decision is so important, for so many people. Here is what the Court wrote in Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia:

In Title VII, Congress adopted broad language making it illegal for an employer to rely on an employee’s sex when deciding to fire that employee. We do not hesitate to recognize today a necessary consequence of that legislative choice: An employer who fires an individual merely for being gay or transgender defies the law.

Prior to Bostock, employers could use “religious reasons” to justify discrimination against gay, lesbian and transgender employees.

Now, workers have a remedy in federal court when they face discrimination and harassment in the workplace. And Bostock opens the door for future victories, in the fight for true equality under the law.

We celebrate this amazing decision. And we are celebrating a great run in this campaign.

This month, we’ve announced a slate of new endorsements, including Congresswoman Veronica Escobar and Senator Bernie Sanders, adding to our broad support from across the district and country! The momentum is showing in our voter contact efforts, as we identify thousands of new supporters.

And last week alone we raised $70,000 — a record for this campaign!

We are in the middle of a great struggle as a society, and this campaign is committed to lifting up every community in the Texas 10th.

Thank you for being a part of this work. Let’s keep winning victories, big and small. And let’s keep sharing hope in these uncertain times.

In this fight with you,
Mike Siegel
