John,

No one petted Joey. No one loved her. No one cared about her at all. They just
wanted her puppies. To them, Joey was just machinery — and that’s how they
treated her. Joey spent eight years in a Pennsylvania puppy mill, confined to a
small wire cage and forced to produce puppies again and again. Each time, her
pups were taken from her at an early age, neglected, and then sold to pet
stores.

What Joey endured is entirely legal in the U.S. and is common practice at the
estimated 10,000 puppy mills that exist across the country. John, we must stop this abuse, and that means we
need the support of people like you. I hope you will help us right now. Your

profits. Dogs are often crammed in wire cages and stacked on top of each other — with
urine and feces from the dogs above dripping onto the dogs below, causing skin
burns and even blindness.

There’s no affection or playtime, no grooming, and little to no veterinary care.
I’ve seen it firsthand while rescuing dogs from puppy mills. They often cower in
fear, with matted fur and visible wounds — abscesses, tumors, and their paws cut
and deformed from being forced to stand on wire floors.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund is combatting puppy mill abuse through multiple
legal channels, including lawsuits and retail pet sale bans that prevent pet
stores from selling puppies sourced from puppy mills. But we need your help. Your membership gift to support these and all our efforts will be matched
dollar for dollar right now, up to a total of $75,000, so please be as generous
as you can .

Joey was lucky. Most breeding moms don’t survive puppy mills. They endure lives
of suffering, and when they can no longer have puppies, when their bodies give
out, they’re killed — many are drowned or shot. That was the fate that awaited
Joey. It’s also the fate that awaits thousands more like her right now. That’s why I’m asking you to stand with us now with your strongest support to
fight for an end to this cruel industry and give animals the legal voice they
need. MATCH MY GIFT
[[link removed]] Against all odds, Joey was rescued and now lives in a home where she is loved.
But she still suffers from her ordeal. The hair Joey lost from the stress of
living in a puppy mill has never grown back. She shakes and she’s terrified of
most people. Anti-anxiety medications help her cope, but Joey will never
completely heal. It shows the awful extent of the abuse she endured — and why
your support is so urgently needed.

Please join us now when your gift is worth double to fight cruelty and save
lives .

— so please don’t buy them and don’t support this cruel industry. For the animals,

P.S. There are many animals in shelters across the nation in need of a loving
home. If you’re looking to add a dog to your family, please adopt — don’t shop . And if you can’t adopt an animal, you can still save a life with your gift to the Animal Legal Defense Fund today .
