Dear John,
As the father of a child with autism, I can say with confidence that being a caregiver has been one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had. It’s also been the hardest.
Family caregivers — whether they be parents, grandparents, siblings, or extended family — devote their entire selves to supporting their loved ones, sometimes at the cost of their own well-being. And yet, despite their hard work and remarkable selflessness, many caregivers of autistic family members find themselves isolated, cut off from the “village” that so many rely on in moments of need.
If that sounds familiar to you, I want you to know that Autism Speaks is here to help. Our Autism Response Team (ART) is on call to answer your questions, and our Resource Guide is replete with tips and tools on how to provide top-notch care for both you and your loved one.
If you’re a caregiver in need: Please know that you are not alone.*
Otherwise: Please consider making a donation now to fuel our support services for people with autism and their caregivers. For the next 48 hours only, gifts are MATCHED, dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 for DOUBLE the impact. |
For many family caregivers, supporting their loved ones with autism is a lifelong commitment. In fact, it’s estimated that 80 percent of adults with autism live at home and receive support from a family caregiver. That means supporting caregivers is one of the most impactful things we can do to improve the well-being of people on the spectrum.
We’ve made supporting families and caregivers a core tenet of our work. Your MATCHED gift before month’s end can help by fueling:
- Support: Services and tools like ART and the Resource Guide provide empathy, insight, and evidence-based guidance for caregivers who need help now.
- Training: The Caregiver Skills Training is a FREE, evidence-based course that provides caregivers with the skills they need to help their loved one reach their full potential.
- Advocacy: Our advocacy team champions the needs of the autism community on Capitol Hill to advance laws, like the Alleviating Barriers to Caregivers Act, that empower autistic people and their caregivers.
Take advantage of this 2X match to DOUBLE your support for the autism community’s devoted caretakers. Together, we can be the village of support a family needs to stay healthy, happy, and hopeful. |
