🌷MAY 2025 EDITION🌷
With Mother’s Day this month, Vote Mama continued to double down on our celebration of moms! We officially launched our first round of 2025-2026 endorsements, proudly introducing an incredible slate of more than 70 pro-choice Democratic mamas running for office — and we’ve got plenty more to come. As we approach the halfway point of the year, we’re working hard to ensure these trailblazing moms and their campaigns have the necessary resources to win key elections across the country. We’re more fired up than ever, geared up, and ready to go!
Check out the highlights from this month below!

ENDORSED MAMAS
The far-right has been targeting schools with their extremist agenda for years. And with Trump dismantling the Dept. of Education at the federal level, it’s more crucial than ever that we elect moms at the local level who will fight back to protect our kids in the classroom. That’s why we’re so excited to have THREE SCHOOL BOARD VICTORIES already this year!
After becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ member of her Texas district’s school board in 2022, Iliana Garza-Rojas was just re-elected this month! Additionally, both of our school board mamas in Pennsylvania, Danielle Chesek and Kasara Weinrich, completed successful primaries — meaning they’re advancing to the general election in November!
ALUM SPOTLIGHTS
Electing Democratic mamas up and down the ballot isn’t just about representation — it’s about resistance. Our mamas are leaders who know firsthand what it means to fight for their community. They’re on the frontlines, taking risks, raising their voices, and standing up for families.
- Trump’s proposed Budget Reconciliation Bill is a disaster. It’s not just bad policy: it’s a direct hit on families, slashing health care for 40% of kids and pregnant women who rely on Medicaid, adding $4.3 trillion to the national debt, and handing tax breaks to the top 1% wealthiest Americans (while the bottom 1% pay more). When this terrible bill hit the House floor, every single one of our Vote Mama PAC-endorsed mamas voted NO. Rep. Brittany Pettersen and Rep. Hillary Scholten were among the outspoken Vote Mama alum in Congress to voice their strong opposition to this harmful legislation.

- Another fierce Congresswoman and Vote Mama alum Rep. LaMonica McIver also refused to back down this month. She was arrested for peacefully protesting outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey as part of a broader oversight effort to expose the facility’s code violations and demand humane treatment for detainees. Despite Trump setting his Dept. of Justice against her, Rep. McIver has stated that she will continue defending civil rights, demanding government accountability, and standing up for the families who have been torn apart by the Trump administration’s unjust immigration policies.

IN THE MEDIA
An op-ed by Vote Mama founder & CEO, Liuba Grechen Shirley, was published this month under MSNBC’s Know Your Value community, which is dedicated to empowering women. In the poignant piece, Liuba shares her take on Mother’s Day this year, condemning the far-right’s definition of motherhood and calling for meaningful policy action that will support moms and families.
Right around the corner on June 10: New Jersey will hold its primary elections, where we have endorsed Rep. Mikie Sherrill to become the Garden State’s Mom-In-Chief and first Democratic woman governor! She’s a veteran and Navy helicopter pilot who currently serves NJ’s 11th Congressional District. A mother of four kids, Rep. Sherrill has dedicated her career to serving her country and fighting for everyday families. Insider New Jersey highlighted Vote Mama’s support for Mikie’s campaign this month!
A favor to ask you...
Now that our first round of endorsements for this cycle is officially off to a flying start, we can’t waste a single moment. We’ve already achieved a couple of exciting school board victories this year — AND in the coming few weeks, we’ve got big primaries in New Jersey and Virginia. Things are moving rapidly, so we can’t afford to lose any steam if we’re going to elect our pro-choice Democratic mamas. We depend on grassroots supporters like YOU to help keep our candidates and their campaigns fueled — so will you kindly pitch in any amount to Vote Mama today to power our moms and our movement forward?
