Governor DeWine and Andy Wilson announces Ohio missing person working group recommendations [ [link removed] ]

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Andy Wilson announced [ [link removed] ] more than a dozen recommendations from the Ohio Missing Persons Working Group to improve the efficiency of missing persons investigations in Ohio.

Governor DeWine created the working group in January to examine the complexities of missing persons cases, the roadblocks encountered by law enforcement, and the struggles faced by families with missing loved ones.

"Thousands of children and adults are reported missing each year, and although most are located quickly, some simply vanish, leaving anguished families behind and adding to law enforcement's growing caseload," said Governor DeWine. "The goal of this working group was to identify what more we could do as a state to help law enforcement bring more missing people home and support family members during a time of great despair."

Governor DeWine released the following statement after the death of Morrow County Deputy Sheriff  Daniel Sherrer:

"Fran and I want to express our sorrow following this terrible situation. Deputy Sherrer was responding to a domestic relations call, which are, sadly, often the most dangerous calls. This tragedy reminds us how difficult it is to be a law enforcement officer. When responding to a call, law enforcement often has no idea what they are getting into, but they respond and do what they need to do to protect the public and all of us. We pray for Deputy Sherrer's family, friends, and colleagues, and our thoughts are with all enforcement officers who are out there each day responding to dangerous situations."

Lt. Governor Jim Tressel also released the following statement after the death of Deputy Sherrer:

"Ellen and I are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Deputy Sherrer. It is a heartbreaking reminder of the courage and selflessness that defines our law enforcement officers in Ohio. every day, they step into uncertain and often dangerous situations to protect others — often without a moment's notice. Our hearts go out to Deputy Sherrer's family, friends, and fellow deputies during this incredibly difficult time. We are grateful for his service and for the bravery of all those in law enforcement who step forward to protect our communities and keep us safe."

Governor DeWine speaking at the Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety’s press conference [ [link removed] ]

The Ohio-founded international pediatric patient and employee safety effort, Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS [ [link removed] ]), announced [ [link removed]? ] that it has spared more than 30,109 children from serious harm since its inception. This significant safety milestone has also resulted in an estimated savings of $668.4 million in healthcare costs.

Standing in the Ohio Statehouse, where the effort was launched in 2009, Ohio leaders joined SPS to honor the 16 years of collaboration, growing from the eight original members to more than 150 hospitals in North America that have transformed pediatric healthcare with their dedication and work toward the goal of zero serious harm. Early efforts included a partnership with the Ohio Business Roundtable, with foundational support from the Cardinal Health Foundation. The hospitals in the network share information and data regularly to learn best practices that are then spread across the network and shared publicly, along with results, on the network’s website [ [link removed] ].

“Ohio is known for innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit – and this effort demonstrates how our children’s hospitals come together and put these principles in motion to save lives,” said Governor DeWine. “Ohioans can be immensely proud of our outstanding children’s hospitals and how we are exporting their expertise and experience throughout the world.”

Lt. Governor Tressel brought [ [link removed] ] together Career and Technical Education (CTE) leaders from across Ohio for a roundtable discussion on efforts to expand CTE opportunities for students.

Hosted at Medina County Career Center (MCCC), the event included CTE superintendents, administrators, and educators from all regions of Ohio who shared insights into this growing educational pathway.

“As a former educator, I know how important it is to give students choices – to make sure that every child has the opportunity to find something that they are passionate about doing,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “More often now, we’re seeing kids finding their spark in career and technical education. While this is exciting, and can lead to successful and fulfilling careers, we need to make sure we are stepping up as a state to ensure that every child who is interested in pursuing CTE has the ability to do so.”

Lt. Governor Tressel brought [ [link removed] ] together business, education, and community leaders from the Greater Akron area for a roundtable discussion on the region’s workforce strengths and its needs.

“As we travel the state, we continue to see the communities that have strong partnerships between education and business, like we see here in Akron, are best positioned for the incredible opportunities we have coming our way in Ohio. They are preparing their students to thrive in the jobs of tomorrow, while also addressing local industry needs,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “As someone who earned my master’s degree at the University of Akron and also worked here for many years, I’ve seen firsthand how the UA connects education to real-world experiences that students can take with them for life. As we shape Ohio’s Workforce Playbook, we want to continue to build on these kinds of local partnerships all across the state.”

Governor DeWine is encouraging [ [link removed] ] Ohioans to take advantage of this year’s Sales Tax Holiday, which is designed to provide meaningful savings for families across the state.

The 2025 Sales Tax Holiday will run for two full weeks, beginning at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, August 14.

In 2024, Governor DeWine and the Ohio General Assembly expanded the Sales Tax Holiday to include more items and run for a longer period. Instead of the usual three days, it lasted ten days and was expanded to include a wide range of items up to $500, rather than limited to school supplies.

“The timing of this year’s sales tax holiday not only supports families preparing for back-to-school, but also provides relief on other important household needs,” said Governor DeWine.
