Ayanna Pressley for Congress

Earlier this month, the Trump Administration resumed collections on defaulted federal student loans, including wage garnishments, tax refund interceptions, and seizure of Social Security benefits. This comes on the heels of Trump slashing the Department of Education staff in half, raising prices for families through his reckless tariff war, and attacks on healthcare and food assistance.

The Trump Administration should not be in the business of picking the pockets of our most vulnerable borrowers — period. That’s why I just reintroduced a bill to push back against this Administration’s shameful garnishment tactics and stand up for our student borrowers alongside Senators Booker and Warren.

We’re collecting names to show strong opposition to this administration and harmful garnishment tactics that impact our most vulnerable. Will you add your name as a grassroots signer to this bill?

YES, I’LL ADD MY NAME!

When I was still paying on my loans, I carried a lot of shame — shame about the fact that no matter how hard I worked, I just wasn’t making any headway. There are so many working people, who despite their best efforts, struggle to pay off these loans.

The people who will be hurt most by garnishment are Black women, who disproportionately have higher loan rates, people living paycheck to paycheck, and elders and disabled folks relying on their Social Security benefits to get by. The Trump Administration wants to kick people while they’re down.

No one should have their hard-earned wages, tax refunds, and Social Security checks seized by Donald Trump. I know the burden that folks are carrying. I know the real fears that people are living with at this moment. So I’m doing everything I can to help you navigate these times — whether it’s defending our constitutional rights or keeping this administration from picking your pockets.

Add your name as a grassroots signer to protect student loan borrowers from shameful garnishment tactics. Every name shows the strength of our opposition and resistance.
