MEET DAE Shifting Faculty Mindsets: A Key to Accelerating Student Success in Community Colleges Dr. Kri Burkander and Mark Duffy have published a new article in the Community College Journal of Research and Practice. Their study, “Faculty Mind-sets and Instructional Strategies in the Era of Corequisite Remediation,” examines how changes in faculty perspectives impact classroom practices and support the wider adoption of acceleration reforms in California community colleges. The research underscores that innovative teaching methods are valuable, but cultivating growth-oriented mind-sets among faculty is essential for scaling and sustaining student success initiatives. This immersive event, building on our 2023 "Small But Mighty" report, unveiled a compelling audio documentary sharing the powerful narratives, systemic challenges, and invaluable contributions of Black teachers in Allegheny County and beyond. The panel conversation provided a dynamic space for Black educators to share their perspectives on recruitment, retention, and the unique value they bring to schools, fostering interactive dialogue about their experiences and the broader challenges facing the profession. WATCH Recent News Holistic Supports: Essential for College Success Our postsecondary team is highlighting the importance of holistic student supports in college success in a new blog series. The introductory post examines how integrated services—encompassing academics, basic needs, and well-being—enhance degree completion. Drawing on research from community colleges and universities, the series will examine best practices in advising, tutoring, and wraparound supports. Personalized, sustained help is key as colleges move beyond traditional developmental education. READ MORE Introducing the Voices for Change Microsite We've proudly launched BlackEducatorVoices.org, a new microsite amplifying the experiences, insights, and leadership of Black educators. This digital platform serves as a digital home for RFA's "Voices for Change" project, which hosts a national network of Black teacher-researchers using participatory action research to center their expertise, address systemic barriers, and drive meaningful, community-informed change for a more just education system.
