TAKE FIVE | May 30, 2025

Friend,

There’s no sugar coating our current state of affairs. The Trump regime’s first 100 days have been an absolute disaster for workers, GOP lawmakers are trying to pass a billionaire tax scam that will give trillions to the ultra-wealthy, while forcing everyone else to foot the bill, and the White House is pretending that Musk’s influence will be fading away like the market value of a cybertruck.

But this big, bold mess is sparking big, beautiful resistance.

We’re witnessing never before seen alignment with labor over big business, especially in the southern and southwestern United States. The “scrappy” rank-and-file movement of federal workers known as FUN is holding the line against vicious DOGE cuts. A strategic current of boycotts has corporations and their investors stressed out. And union siblings are being released from cruel ICE detention because unions members, community allies, and faith leaders continue to apply pressure. There is opportunity within the chaos that our anti-democratic opposition sows, and workers are using it to build power.

Warehouse workers at Amazon are standing shoulder-to-shoulder in their fight against the multi-billion-dollar company. As they ramp up demands for safety, they’re asking you to stand with them:

Amazon promotes itself as a family-friendly company that even offers paid parental leave, but pregnant workers like Jennifer face a harsh reality. After being diagnosed with a high-risk pregnancy, Jennifer requested accommodations at her Buffalo warehouse—like extra breaks and lighter lifting. Despite the Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act requiring these, Amazon ignored her doctor's request. Managers harassed her, and in February, she left work in an ambulance with chest pain. Days later, she was fired without warning.

🌹 Missouri workers aren’t backing down. MO voters passed paid sick time for nearly all workers in the state and abortion access through ballot measures in the 2024 elections. In a direct attack to democracy and the will of millions of Missourians, the Missouri legislature gutted Proposition A and launched a new anti-abortion constitutional amendment. Missouri JWJ immediately mobilized with allies at the steps of the Capitol.

"Prop A was won through organizing, and that’s exactly how we’ll protect it. We’re not backing down. We’re building forward."
