Dear Neighbors,
The 2025 regular legislative session concluded early last week, and I want to share where things stand.
The House passed a number of budget bills, including critical investments in veterans’ aid, agriculture, housing, judiciary and public safety, as well as initiatives from the Minnesota Legacy Amendment. We also approved a bill updating pensions for teachers, police officers, and firefighters and a bill to crack down on repeat DWI offenders. Additionally, the House passed a bill to extend unemployment insurance for Iron Range mining workers impacted by mass layoffs and hourly school workers in ISD #196 who feed, transport, and care for our kids.

A special session will be needed to finish the remaining important pieces of the budget. With the Minnesota House evenly divided at 67-67, we knew this session would require meaningful collaboration to deliver the investments our Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eagan deserves. Having balanced a state budget in a divided legislature in 2019 (GOP-Senate and DFL-House), I’m optimistic about wrapping up our work representing our communities’ priorities in the coming days. Thank you for staying engaged, whether it be phone calls, emails, or visits to the Capitol.
To that end, I’m hosting a town hall meeting to hear from you on Saturday, June 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Robert Trail Library (14395 S Robert Trail, Rosemount, MN 55068). It’s an opportunity to share your input, ask questions, and to let me know if there's any way I can help. This event is subject to change due to the potential of a special session being called by the governor. I'll keep you posted.
Keep in Touch
Even if you can’t make it on June 7, never hesitate to reach out with feedback or if you need assistance. You can reach me via email at [email protected] or phone at 651-296-4306. It’s an honor to serve Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eagan in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
Enjoy the weekend,
John
