Dear Illinois Republican Family,
Governor Pritzker and his Democrat allies are bleeding taxpayers dry to fund their reckless, out-of-touch agenda. As Illinois barrels toward its budget deadline, Democrats are once again proving their loyalty—not to working families or small businesses, but to bloated government and reckless ideology. Governor JB Pritzker’s proposed $55 billion budget isn’t just historic in size—it’s a declaration of war on fiscal responsibility and common sense.
Since taking office in 2019, Pritzker has increased state spending by a jaw-dropping 32%. And how does he plan to pay for it? By raiding the wallets of everyday Illinoisans. The plan includes nearly $1 billion in new taxes—a brutal blow to families already grappling with inflation and economic uncertainty.
But the Democrats aren’t stopping there. They’re charging ahead with an extreme agenda that includes:
-
$4.24 billion in new wealth and investment taxes
-
$2.7 billion in service taxes that hit consumers and businesses
-
$1.89 billion in gambling and casino taxes
And while they’re taxing hardworking citizens into the ground, they’re showering benefits on illegal immigrants—including guaranteed free public education—pushing debt and legislation like physician-assisted suicide.
This is reckless governance. It’s a full-blown, tax-and-spend spree fueled by liberal fantasy and political gamesmanship. The Illinois Republican Party stands united with our House and Senate Republicans in fighting back. We refuse to let Illinois families be treated like a piggy bank for failed policies and ideologically driven pet projects.
State Representative Regan Deering (R-Decatur) nailed it in her Chicago Tribune op-ed, calling out the fiscal insanity and lack of transparency that has become the Springfield norm. As a small business owner and nonprofit leader, she knows what real-world budgeting looks like—and this isn’t it.
“In the real world, when money runs out, you prioritize. You stretch. You reform. But not in Springfield,” Deering wrote. “We need a budget that is truly balanced, offers property tax relief, and includes no tax hikes.”
She’s right. What Illinois needs isn’t a bigger budget—we need smarter spending, honest accounting, and accountability at every level. Illinois Democrats have had their way for too long. It’s time to say enough. It’s time to demand a government that respects taxpayers, serves families, and stops spending us into oblivion.
