Earlier this spring, when hospitals began seeing massive influxes of cases of COVID-19, we knew what was coming: gigantic medical bills.
Now, more than 2.1 million Americans have been diagnosed with COVID, and over 116,000 are dead―but as hospital billing departments catch up, the nightmare is just beginning:
Our for-profit health care system is broken and is bankrupting U.S. families. We shouldn’t have a health care system that forces the survivors to envy the dead. We need Medicare for All.
Sign the petition: Demand Congress immediately pass Medicare for All and ensure health care is a human right!
The Republican Party’s insistence that health care is a luxury only for those who can afford it is contributing to the spread of this pandemic, endangering even those who can afford health care. And piecemeal approaches from Democrats, to cover only COVID-related costs, disguise that these same injustices take place every day at a smaller scale. No one should go bankrupt from a pandemic―but no one should go bankrupt from cancer or heart disease either!
In the midst of a global pandemic, the vulnerabilities of America’s for-profit health care system are laid bare. The confusing, expensive web of health care bureaucracy is endangering public health. It’s time to cut through the red tape and enact Medicare for All!
Demand Congress pass Medicare for All to protect the American people during the pandemic and beyond from a broken, for-profit health care system.
Medicare for All is the solution. It’s time to make health care a human right.
