Your Latest Briefing from the Liberal Democrats. | | On track to beat the Conservatives at the next General Election | This month, we celebrated our 7th set of gains in a row at local elections - our best ever winning streak.
Gaining 163 councillors and three councils outright, while taking control of four more, we’re now the second party of local government, controlling more councils than the Conservatives!
The trajectory is clear - people are done with the Conservatives, and more and more people are looking to the Liberal Democrats to take the country forward.
It’s showing in the polls too. 🔽 Please share this with your friends and family to show how our support is growing. | | | We can’t do this without you, John. So, as always, thank you for your support.

After years of damage due to the Conservatives’ botched deal, it’s time to forge a real partnership that will make our country stronger, safer, and wealthier.
We’re the only party calling for a bespoke customs union with the EU – slashing red tape and boosting exports, with the potential to grow the economy by 2.2% – ten times more than the current deal! | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 4 mins | We’re also pushing for a Youth Mobility Scheme to give young people the freedom to work and study across Europe; something Labour’s deal only gave a vague commitment to.
While other parties drag their feet or dwell on the past, we’re offering real, ambitious solutions to move Britain forward.
Please share the benefits of our plan on social media so people understand the difference ambition can make: | | | | The Government’s Home Office fee rise risks worsening the social care crisis | Although the Government is right to try and fix the broken immigration system left by the Conservatives, imposing crippling Home Office fees on social care providers to make it harder for them to recruit from abroad, will push many care homes to the brink. | | ⏲️ Est. reading time: 4 mins | The Government must extend care workers’ visas without the immigration skills charge, while implementing a clear plan to recruit British workers to fill vacancies. This would include implementing our Carer’s Minimum Wage and speeding up reforms to the apprenticeship system.
Please share our demands on social media so the Government’s reforms don’t have unintended consequences for our economy and for our loved ones who rely on care: | | | | 📚 New Book by Ed Davey – ‘Why I Care, and Why Care Matters’ Discover the powerful, personal story of our party leader with his new book.
In ‘Why I Care, and Why Care Matters’, Ed shares his moving journey as a carer, along with the untold stories of others like him. With honesty and heart, he calls for a national conversation about care – and why it must be at the centre of a better society.
The book is already sparking conversations - Ed’s campaign for carers was backed by the Guardian this week.

This will close a dangerous loophole that saw domestic abusers released early from prison because they were convicted of general offences like ABH, assault or battery - posing a threat to victims. | | ⏲️ Watch time: 2 mins | The Government also accepted the Gauke Review's recommendation of a presumption against short prison sentences, which we’ve long championed. This will ease overcrowding, improve rehabilitation, and reduce reoffending.
Finally, in a win led by Sarah Olney MP, the Government will make more court transcripts free for victims of rape and sexual abuse, making access to justice fairer and boosting transparency. This comes after one of her constituents was asked to pay over £7,000 to access their case transcript.
These three wins show our growing influence in Parliament and our focus on practical reforms that deliver real change. | | Too many lives in the LGBTQ+ community have been blighted by discrimination and hate.
