Legislative Update
Friends,
The 2025 legislative session officially ended on the 19th, but our work is not done. A special session is now on the horizon, although we still don’t know exactly when it will begin. We’re hearing it could start sometime next week, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
As I mentioned last week, there were still a number of budget areas without agreement. The deadline for working groups to wrap up negotiations came and went Wednesday evening, and while some progress was made, a handful of bills are still unfinished. At this point, those remaining negotiations will have to be handled by leadership and the governor before we can move forward.
The Cost of Delay
This situation is a clear reminder of how important it is to show up on day one ready to work. The House DFL wasted the first 23 days of session earlier this year, time that could have been spent negotiating and moving important bills forward. That delay now has real consequences for Minnesotans, especially our local governments and schools who are waiting on final budget decisions.
I remain focused on doing the job you sent me here to do: fighting for a responsible budget, protecting taxpayers, and making sure our veterans, law enforcement, families, and communities get the support they deserve.
Ride for the Troops This Weekend
This weekend marks the 19th annual Ride for the Troops in Bemidji – an incredible tradition that supports our area servicemembers, veterans, and their families.
Festivities kick off Saturday with a car and bike show, followed by dinner, awards, and live music at the Eagles Club. Then on Sunday, riders will gather for the signature “Longest Ride” route through northern Minnesota, starting and ending at the Bemidji Eagles Club. Kickstands go up at noon!
It’s more than a ride; it’s a powerful show of support for those who’ve worn the uniform and sacrificed for our country. Funds raised help provide vital resources and services for local veterans and military families.
If you’re able, I encourage you to come out and take part. You can register and learn more at rideforthetroops.com.
Let's Continue to Work Together
As always, thank you for staying informed and involved. I will continue to keep you updated as we move into the special session.
Have a great weekend,
Bidal
