Democrat,
It’s another corrupt week for the Trump Administration—and it’s as shameless as ever. This time, the President pardoned tax cheats who defrauded our country—handing them get-out-of-jail-free cards in exchange for political donations. This is just another example of Trump protecting his cronies at the expense of the American people.
As if that wasn’t enough, Trump’s social media company is vying to buy Bitcoin. Trump continues to use the power of his office to enrich himself, all while hardworking families drown in bills and struggle to put food on the table. He is using the presidency as his personal piggy bank — and may have doubled his estimated net worth in the last year alone. This corruption must be stopped. In this week’s newsletter, we’ll cover Trump’s latest corrupt pardon, legal pushback on his attacks on the press, and how New Jersey is standing up against federal immigration overreach.

President Trump’s pardon of Paul Walczak is a troubling reminder of his corrupt priorities. Walczak pleaded guilty last November to major tax crimes and was sentenced to 18 months in prison and to hand over $4 million in restitution. But after his mother attended a Trump fundraiser with a $1 million ticket price, Walczak was pardoned. This pardon sends a dangerous message. Loyalty to a president shouldn't be a get-out-of-jail-free card. This is blatant corruption. It’s a clear example of how Trump continues to put his personal interests and his allies above the law.

Claim:
President Trump’s Executive Order to halt federal funding for NPR and PBS is an effort to limit taxpayer dollars spent on “biased and partisan” media.
The Truth:
Trump’s Executive Order is a blatant attempt to punish independent media that doesn’t kowtow to his bullying. NPR and other public media outlets provide vital, non-partisan news to millions of Americans. NPR is suing the Trump administration, arguing this unconstitutional order retaliates against them for simply reporting the truth. Trump constantly undermines the First Amendment and aims to silence news outlets that hold the powerful accountable.
Impact on New Jersey:
This attack on public media affects every New Jerseyan who relies on NPR and PBS for trusted news and emergency information. In a state where access to accurate, unbiased news is crucial, Trump’s order jeopardizes the very foundation of our democracy and the right to an informed public.

New Jersey Mayors Push Back Against Trump’s Immigration Lawsuit
The Trump administration is suing four New Jersey cities—Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, and Hoboken—over their so-called “sanctuary city” policies, claiming these protections obstruct federal immigration enforcement. But our mayors aren’t backing down. They’re standing firm, defending their policies as a way to protect immigrant communities and ensure equal treatment under the law. The mayors argue this lawsuit is nothing more than a political stunt, with no real evidence that these policies compromise public safety. New Jersey is showing the rest of the country that it will resist this federal overreach and continue protecting its residents, no matter who’s trying to bully them.
Representatives Rob Menendez and Nellie Pou hold event with NJDSC’s Latino Caucus discussing the impacts of Trump’s Executive Orders

This week, Congressmembers Rob Menendez and Nellie Pou joined a discussion hosted by the NJ Latino Caucus focused on the far-reaching effects of Trump’s Executive Orders on our state and country. Some highlights from the discussion:
-
“...the complete restructuring or dismantling of the Department of Education, what that means for Title I funding...none of this is gonna make education more accessible. None of this is gonna make education something that becomes a true pillar and foundation for every member of our community. This is just an attack on what they perceive as grievances.” - Rep. Menendez
