Dear
SPUC supporter,
While we have had to turn to face the threat of the abortion amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill, I just wanted to remind you of some important dates and actions you can take to defeat the Leadbeater assisted suicide bill.
Dates for your diary
13th June – Day 2 of Report Stage
The Report stage of the Bill will continue on this day. Due to the large number of amendments left to be debated, it is considered unlikely that the crucial Third Reading vote will happen on this day. While there will be a presence from groups opposing the Bill outside Parliament on this day, which you are welcome to join, we are focusing efforts on the 20th June.
20th June – Likely Third Reading
20th June is considered the likely date for the crucial Third Reading vote – the last opportunity for MPs to vote this dangerous bill down.
We will be joining allies from other groups for a demonstration outside Parliament. Please do your best to join us if you are at all able to get to London - it is extremely important that MPs see that there is widespread opposition to assisted suicide.
The demo will begin at 8.30 (to catch MPs going into Parliament) and will continue until 2.30. We will send out full details soon, but until then save the date!
4th July – If proceedings in the Commons to not complete on 20th June, this is the next possible date – we will update you about any action taking place on that day.
What can I do?
Lobby your MP in person
The most effective form of lobbying is to go and see your MP in person. If you have not already done so, please consider going to a constituency surgery or arranging a meeting with your MP. A guide to doing this can be found on our campaign page:

Write to your MP
Please use our webtool to contact your MP, asking them to oppose Kim Leadbeater’s assisted suicide bill.
Enter your postcode to find out who your MP is, and how he/she voted at Second Reading. The tool provides a template letter, which is tailored according to which way your MP voted in November. As always, please edit the template text into your own words.
Write to your local hospice
Another action you can take is to write to the head of your local hospice. If the Bill were to pass, it would have a devastating impact of the hospice sector, and we need hospice workers telling MP this. If you don’t know your nearest hospice, you can search for it on Hospice UK (https://www.hospiceuk.org/hospice-care-finder). You can use the template linked to below to help you with your letter.
