Franson Banner
Good morning!
I hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend. It was great to have time to reflect on the sacrifices of the men and women who have given their lives for our freedom in this country. I hope you also took the time to remember this over the weekend.
Legislative Update
Negotiations on our key budget bills have continued into this week, and despite some ongoing challenges, we are making meaningful progress. Several major bills have been finalized in recent days, and we expect to conclude the remaining negotiations soon. Given where things stand, we anticipate a special session next week to finish the job.
While a few bills are still being held up, discussions remain active. One area where we secured a clear victory is in K-12 education. House Republicans stood firm and successfully protected funding for non-public pupil aid. This was a critical priority, and it ensures that families who choose non-public schools will continue to receive the support they need. We stopped proposed cuts that would have undermined educational choice, and we sent a clear message that Minnesota supports the right of parents to choose the best learning environment for their children.
This funding matters. It helps thousands of students across the state access the schools that best meet their needs. By defending non-public pupil aid, we are supporting families who are trying to do what is right for their kids. Educational choice is a real, practical need for many Minnesotans, and we are proud to defend it.
At the same time, we continue to push for greater transparency and accountability in education funding. As we enter the final stretch of session, House Republicans remain focused on delivering results. We are fighting for parents, students, and taxpayers. We are working to ensure that education in Minnesota is effective, efficient, and rooted in choice and accountability.
More Fraud Uncovered
Fraud has been a major focus for us this session, and for good reason. Over the past six years, nearly *$1 billion* in fraud has been uncovered in Minnesota. Fraud, waste, and abuse in Minnesota needs to be addressed to prevent future funneling of taxpayer dollars away from intended areas.
The latest raid was of the New Vision Foundation [ [link removed] ], a nonprofit in St. Paul that claims to teach coding and digital literacy to disadvantaged youth. It has now been linked to the broader ‘Feeding Our Future’ scandal. Aimee Bock, the executive director of Feeding Our Future, was recently convicted for her central role in the fraud. Her network extended into multiple organizations, including New Vision Foundation.
Earlier this week, Hibo Daar [ [link removed] ], who ran a nonprofit called “Northside Wellness,” was arrested at the airport while trying to flee to Dubai. Daar falsely claimed to have fed thousands of children during the pandemic, pocketing government funds while providing no real services. Her arrest came just days after another site raid tied to the ongoing investigation.
Despite this growing mountain of evidence, House Democrats have refused to take action. They have not held a single hearing on the issue. At the same time, they have blown through an $18 billion surplus, raised taxes by another $10 billion, and driven the state toward a projected $6 billion deficit. These choices are fiscally irresponsible and actively weaken public trust.
In contrast, House Republicans are standing firm. We are working to expose fraud, recover stolen funds, and make sure taxpayer dollars go where they’re actually needed. We’re fighting for accountability, for affordability, and for the safety and well-being of every Minnesotan.
