Dear Network,
Dear Friends,
Another week has passed and we're still here, waiting for positive developments from the coordinated efforts of MEPs, organizations, and civil society across Europe to oppose Hungary’s so-called “On The Transparency of Public Life” bill—a law that threatens fundamental freedoms.
This is the time for action, for unity and we're very grateful for all the people and organisations that came forward and that are mobilizing Hungarian and European voices to adfirm the universal and inalienable principles of human rights. (You can find here the videos made by our Experts & Delegates Julie Ward and Francesco Pipparelli and the statement sent out by CSF- Civil Society Forum).
As we sadly know though, what's happening is not sudden and it's been in the making, as accurately pointed out in the Timeline put together by Civilizacio Collective, to which we're very grateful and that you can consult here, and that shows the precise political scheme behind these actions, aiming at the progressive demolition of freedom of speech, assembly and opinion in Hungary.
Luckily the Civil Society is coming together and we're proud to share that over 300 civil society organizations have signed an open letter to the European Commission and MEPs. This letter has sparked an important discussion that we hope will send a strong message to Hungary’s ruling party about the consequences of undermining fundamental rights.
We also recognize the immense power of the current government however, maintained through constant propaganda and misinformation. Because of this, we are preparing for potential drastic measures and need our entire network to stand together.
June 20th is coming and our List of Refugee Deaths is endangered.
Since 1993 we have 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗴𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 the "Fatal Policies of Fortress Europe" through our UNITED List of Refugee Deaths, created through extensive research and collaboration with over 550 organisations across 48 countries. At the moment the list commemorates 𝟲𝟬,𝟲𝟮𝟬 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁 and the next update is coming on June 11th, because we're keeping up with our work and our campaign for June 20th will still be out there for you all. Nonetheless we must acknowledge that, with the passing of this bill, the List may be compromised forever. For this reason we want you to help us share it even more this year, not only on social media. Consider bringing in your organisation, in your town, Endless, the Installation Concept designed to spread awareness about the list and that has been developed in cooperation with H O R I Z O N T, F I K T I V E K O L L E K T I V and A N A C H O M A .
You can read more about it by downloading the informative leaflet here and apply to get the materials by filling this form or by getting in touch with us.

Remember that WE NEED YOU!
To quote Veronika Móra, Director of the Ökotárs Foundation, at the demonstration against the adoption of the oppressive "transparency" bill on 18.05.2025 at Kossuth Square:
If it scares you - they win.
If it gives you sleepless nights - they win.
If it keeps you quiet - they win.
And we can't let them win on this one. So:
