EWG is committed to supporting and joining our fellow Americans who are on the front lines in the fight against racial injustice, including environmental racism. We stand in solidarity with the Black community and others that have been disenfranchised for far too long.

For decades, communities of color have been forced to bear a far greater burden from pollution and a lack of access to food and consumer products that are free from ingredients that are inferior and harm their health. Our priority is to ensure that every person, no matter their race or economic status, is able to live a healthier life in a healthier environment.

Dear friend,

We have BIG news for you.

The California Assembly voted last week to ban 12 of the most toxic chemicals used in cosmetics sold in California, including mercury, formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates and PFAS chemicals.

This is just the first step. The bill, the California’s Toxic Free Cosmetics Act, now needs to pass in the state Senate and then be signed into law by Gov. Newsom. If that happens, it could have huge implications for the push for a national cosmetics safety legislation.

Below are some resources to help you break down the details of California’s Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act, how you can take action to support it, and ways you can protect yourself and your loved ones from questionable chemicals in personal care products.
