The Illinois State House approved SB 1950, the assisted suicide bill, by a 63-42 vote. It needed 60 to pass; this was not a slam dunk by any means! Illinois legislators attached this life-or-death bill as an amendment to a piece of legislation about food safety in an attempt to circumvent opposition. It now goes to the Senate for a concurrence vote which will occur tomorrow – Friday.   Please call or email or do both to the Senators below.   If we can hold these votes, we will defeat the bill.   You’ve done such good work – please don’t stop now! 

Even if you do not live in Illinois, please call every legislator on this list or send an email (or do both!) voicing your objection to SB 1950.   If you have family or friends in Illinois, ask them to act as well.

My name is [insert name], and I am calling to express my concerns regarding the End-
of-Life Options Act and ask Senator [last name] to vote NO on SB1950.
SB1950 is a last-minute attempt to pass Physician Assisted Suicide without having a full
conversation on such an important issue in the Senate. This bill does not include
mandatory psychological evaluations to screen for depression or a mechanism or
agency responsible for investigating coercion, which puts people with disabilities and
people of color at risk.

Question: Does Senator [last name] have a stance on this issue?
I am deeply concerned that this legislation is moving forward while Illinois’ health
system is inadequate. Please vote NO on SB1950 and instead promote investment in
accessible health care, including preventative, palliative, and hospice care. Thank you
