Dear John,
On May 27, we led supporters from around the country to offices on Capitol Hill. Together, we shared stories about the ways federal aging policy has improved the lives of older Americans.
It was a powerful reminder that when we raise our voices together, we can create real change. But the work is far from over.
Right now, Congress is focused on tax legislation, but its next priority will be the federal budget. Cuts to critical programs older adults depend on have been proposed, including: - Cutting $40 billion from HHS, which oversees most aging services programs in America.
-
Eliminating the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), a vital resource that helps older adults re-enter the workforce.
- Wiping out investments in chronic disease self-management and falls prevention which is essential for maintaining independence.
-
Adding work requirements to programs like Medicaid and SNAP, putting health care and nutrition further out of reach for many.
Older adults don't have reliable alternatives for support if these programs disappear—and the demand for aging services will continue to grow with the thousands of Americans turning 65 each day. We need your help to keep the momentum from Hill Day going and to protect what matters most. |
