Tariffs aren’t all bad. They can be a useful policy tool for creating domestic jobs and defending labor rights across borders — but tariffs only work when they’re paired with policies at home that grow U.S. industries, and when they are carefully targeted. That’s not what Trump is doing at all. Trump’s impulsive, across-the-board approach will lead to higher prices for everyday people, especially for goods that simply can’t be produced at scale in the U.S. — like bananas and coffee. Even worse, Trump’s reckless behavior is inciting a trade war, with other countries retaliating with tariffs on U.S. goods, which can be devastating to small and mid-sized farms and other small businesses. Meanwhile, Trump is using the threat of tariffs to push for more U.S. fossil fuel exports, especially fracked gas. If Congress doesn’t act now, the damage could be even worse. Send a message: Urge Congress to intervene and stop Trump’s tariffs!
